Glasgow

Located in "Merchant City" in the heart of Glasgow city centre this site presented the opportunity to do something bold whilst also addressing its historic neighbours.

The site is bounded by a narrow laneway or "Wynd" and our aim was to restore that street edge. In doing so Old Wynd is brought back to life with street edge activity. The laneway is reactivated as a route back to the main shopping streets and train stations.

A design solution was reached that restored the street edge and addressed the neighbouring significant stone buildings. The building form has a distinct shoulder that is in line with the older buildings adjacent to it.

A ribbed elevational treatment was adopted which respects the vertical proportions of the historic buildings in Glasgow city centre and which provides interest. These ribs take the form of projecting fins.
