This building is a reinterpretation of a traditional Irish Clachan. A series of volumes, or cottages, were designed as simple single room depth buildings. Each building sits close to its neighbour and each volume is connected by a modern glazed infill.
The series of buildings were arranged with two aims. Firstly so that each room could enjoy the spectacular views from the site and secondly the house is arranged so that it acts as a natural barrier between the public side of the house (the front) and the private rear which is orientated to take maximum advantage of the path of the sun. Simple materials and detailing were utilised to deliver this modern cottage dwelling.
